Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Just like his father Dr. Marc, Dr. Matt has always liked working with his hands, and he wanted to pursue a career that would enable him to help people improve their health and wellbeing. Quickly noticing that his father was doing exactly this on a daily basis as a dentist, the profession seemed like a natural fit! Growing up, he always enjoyed seeing his father enhance people’s lives in tangible ways, and now he’s delighted to do the same here at Dental Essentials of Rocky Hill.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Matt graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the College of William and Mary, and before starting dental school, he worked as a research assistant, evaluating clinical trials for potential HIV vaccines at the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement in Military Medicine in Rockville, VA. Afterward, he earned his Doctor of Dental medicine degree from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine in 2005.

Dr. Matt then completed a General Practice Residency at Hartford Hospital, and this was followed by several years of attending various continuing education courses. Today, he has completed training with SPEAR Education, is a certified Invisalign provider, and can make same-day crowns using CEREC technology. He’s also a member of the following dental organizations:

  • American Dental Association
  • Connecticut Dental Association
  • American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry
  • Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry
  • SPEAR Faculty Club

Dr. Matt’s wife Sara is also a dentist (in South Windsor), and they have two daughters named Emilia and Molly. When he isn’t spending quality time with his family, he likes to play golf, brew his own beer, cook all types of BBQ, and cheer on the Yankees. Currently, he is the VP of Friends of Glastonbury Youth, and he’s a member of the Faith Lutheran Church in East Hartford. He’s an avid scuba diver and even has a saltwater reef tank at home! According to him, if he wasn’t a dentist, then he’d likely be a marine biologist.
