Rocky Hill Connecticut dentist Marc Scoles D M D

Dr. Marc Scoles brings an impressive 45 years of experience to every exam and treatment he provides, so you can trust that your smile is always in the best hands when you’re in his chair. He loves how dentistry allows him to seamlessly blend art, science, and healthcare, and now he gets to do it right next to his son, Dr. Matt Scoles! Read on below to learn a little more about Dr. Marc and the expertise he brings to our dental office.

Why Did You Decide to Become a Dentist?

Dr. Marc’s extended family was filled with healthcare professionals, including nurses, physicians, and dentists. He became drawn to dentistry in particular because he saw how it offered both short-term and long-term benefits for patients, plus it would allow him to routinely work with his hands. Looking back, he’s grateful for his family members that inspired him, and he’s overjoyed that he’s done the same for his son.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Dr. Marc graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1970 from Upsala College, and he then attended the New Jersey College of Medicine and Dentistry. He obtained his doctorate in 1974 and went on to complete a General Practice Residency at the Jersey Shore Medical Center. Over the past four decades, he has completed countless hours of continuing education and still refines his skillset thanks to memberships in the following dental organizations:

  • American Dental Association
  • Connecticut Dental Association
  • Hartford Dental Society
  • Academy of General Dentistry
  • Pierre Fauchard Academy

Currently, Dr. Marc is affiliated with Hartford Hospital and serves as a Senior Attending in the Department of Dentistry. He participates in the post-graduate training of recent dental graduates during their residency programs, passing his knowledge onto the next generation. He has frequently collaborated with the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, where he has served as part of the Critical Thinking in Dentistry course and the UCONN Mentor Program, helping young dentists adapt their education to the real world. On top of this, he’s always happy to welcome undergraduate and even high school students who are considering a career in dentistry into our dental office, allowing them to shadow the team and ask questions about the profession.

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Marc and his wife have two grown children as well as four wonderful grandchildren. You already know Dr. Matt, and his daughter, Kirsten, is currently pursuing an acting career in Los Angeles. When he isn’t hanging out with family, Dr. Marc frequently volunteers for organizations like the Boy Scouts, Hartwell Soccer, and Glastonbury Little League. He also donates free dental care to underprivileged families through the Connecticut Mission of Mercy. During his more laid-back moments, you’ll most likely find him golfing, traveling, and reading about ancient history (he hopes to participate in an archaeological dig in Italy someday).
